Suzanne Cotter will speak about the global in contemporary art and importance of the local within our new cultural cosmopolitanism. Drawing on curatorial projects past and present, Cotter will offer her thoughts on the role of the arts institution, new historical narratives that are emerging in the contemporary moment, and the challenges associated with presenting art in new cultural contexts. In an era of the global, in which artistic practices from around the world are the focus of attention of curators, collectors and the market, how can we begin to understand more fully the poetics of production as a counter point to the value-laden aesthetics of reception?
