Indian Calligraphy | Between the Hoe and the Heart: World of the Warlis | Masking the Ramayana
Facilitators: Shital Mehta and Purnima Sampat
November 12 to 14, 1999 | 10.00 am to 2.00 pm
Chauraha, National Centre for the Performing Arts, Mumbai
This is an art workshop, based on the famous epic and its interesting anecdotes, in which the children will be exposed to the art of mask-making and mural paintings. Hands-on experience will be provided in making the masks of various Ramayana characters. These masks will then be mounted onto the mural paper and the children can complete the characters and the background. This will provide a three-fold development advantage:
1. Enhance the children’s understanding of the ancient epic
2. Help them understand the basics of mask-making a mural painting.
3. Broaden their horizons
