After the emergence of the art schools established by the British rule, the sculptural art in India assumed a new form. The European concepts of the art of sculpture, which originated from Graeco-Roman ideals, were wilfully adopted by the master sculptors of India. The best works created by Indian sculptors in the pre-Independence era give clear evidence of this.
Baburao Sadwelkar, artist, art critic, and ex-Director of Art, Government of Maharashtra, will deliver the lecture with slides on the above subject.
