Among the numerous art remains at Nalanda in Monastery l, evidence of paintings have also been found. Recently discovered are these paintings on the stone pedestal of a Buddha-figure in Sarai mound, belonging to the Pala School, depicting human and animal figures in red and black. These paintings were executed on a very thin lime plaster which has become flaky. Apart from these, a large number of floral designs were also painted. This illustrated talk is based on Balarka Batabyal’s research on the Nalanda Murals.
