Tyeb Mehta, one of the most senior contemporary Indian painters, has been exploring with rigour and singular dedication, ways of forming a small number of images. In recent years, he has been re-forming some of the most deep-rooted mythoes imprinted in the Indian psyche.
This talk is an attempt to interpret and illuminate Tyeb Mehta’s pre-occupation with the language of painting, as well as the significance of images present in his work, in the wider context of a modernist sensibility.
