Speaker: Ranjit Hoskote
Venue: Little Theater, NCPA
Date: December 04, 1998
The lecture will trace the evolution of J. W. M. Turner as a history painter who swiftly moved towards the evocation of the abstract forces of history and nature, leaving the concrete details demanded by the genre behind. It will also attempt to situate Turner in terms of his context, including such events and phenomena as the Industrial Revolution, slavery and the Romantic Movement.
