Brian Mulvihill, Director of OPERA (Overture for Pancultural Exchange and Realisation of Art) will present a brief talk on the use of video and telecommunications technology by present day artists. The talk will be followed by a programme of contemporary video art works from Canada.
OPERA has been founded by concerned artists under the UNESCO “World Decade for Cultural Development” initiate, to create along with several other activities an international network that attempts to show a range of discourses and processes in video productions.
Video art, though still young, is undeniably developing as an agency for experimentation and innovation and as a medium for alternative art discourse and practice. In addition, the availability of new portable video technology and the medium’s flexibility gives the artist access to a wider and more diverse audience than ever before.
